REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE V (UNIT NURSE MANAGER) The Registered
Professional Nurse (RPN) V (Unit Nurse Manager) is responsible to
assume the 24-hour accountability for the management and direction
of the Surgery/Operating Room Nursing Services to ensure the
provision of optimal care for patients addressing the
individualized age-appropriate care needs of patients. This
position is responsible to assure the assessing and evaluating of
the patients' immediate and long-term needs in an appropriate and
professional manner and developing and implementing care plans
based on those needs. - The incumbent must be able to carry out
nursing procedures, as well as delegate to staff those techniques
requiring a high degree of skill and current knowledge. This
position reports to the Assistant Director of Nursing, position no.
59040, or its designee. Candidates must be able to work rotating
shifts, including extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Services are provided 24/7. - STATUS: - Permanent / Full-time (1.0
FTE) LOCATION: This position is located in the Operating
Room/Recovery Room (OR) department of Kaua'i Veterans Memorial
Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH),
and The Kaua'i Region Clinics, which consist of The Clinic at
Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The
Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po'ipu, and
the Clinic at Kapa'a are all part of the Kaua'i Region, Hawai'i
Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the
State of Hawai'i. The OR department provides nursing services for
all surgical procedures; provides sterile and sanitary environment
for the performance of surgical operations; provides proper control
so that preoperative requisites of the hospital and Medical Staff
are properly carried out; and ensures that necessary equipment,
instruments and drugs are available to the surgeon. SALARY: $9,242
per month at 1.0 FTE - SR23 - BU09 BENEFITS: -

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS To qualify, you must meet all of the
following requirements. - Please note that unless specifically
indicated, the required education and experience are credited based
on a 40-hour workweek. Education: Graduation from an accredited
school of nursing. Graduation from a nursing program with a
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is
highly desirable. Licensure: Valid, active license to practice as a
professional nurse in the State of Hawai'i. Applicants must submit
evidence of current Hawai'i RN licensure (a copy of valid license)
at the time of appointment. Certifications: Applicants are required
to provide current certifications from the American Heart
Association in Basic Life Support (BLS), Health Care Provider
(adult, child and infant), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
(ACLS), AND Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). General
Experience: One and one-half years (1-1/2) of professional nursing
experience, of which one year must have been comparable to
Registered Professional Nurse III, where applicant independently
provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital or
institution AND; Five (5) years of combined experience in Operating
Room/Recovery Room services, and/or certification in specialty
preferred. Supervisory Experience: -Six (6) months of professional
supervisory nursing experience which included: (1) planning and
directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their
work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and
scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees. -
Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must be able to demonstrate the
aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties
through successful completing of regular or special assignments
which involve some supervisor responsibilities or aspects; by
serving as a group or -team leader; previous work experience in a
position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in
similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory
or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training
courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory
skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a
supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of: Nursing theory and
practice, technique and procedures; biological, physical, social,
and medicinal sciences as related to the nursing theory and
practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and
current trends and developments in nursing hospital/institution
nursing programs and current trends and procedures necessary for
their implementation. Ability to: Apply nursing theory and practice
planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret, and
evaluate symptoms of patients' conditions and take appropriate
action, to establish and maintain good relationships with hospital
personnel, medical staff, and the general public; direct the work
of nursing assistants; prepare comprehensive nursing diagnosis and
nursing care plans; plan and schedule the work of others; present
nursing education programs; learn the principles and practices of
supervision; demonstrate leadership abilities; work under stressful
situations; and possess good oral and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS Applicants must be physically able to perform,
efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position
