Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience
substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and two
(2) years of full-time experience as a journey-level mechanic; or
successful completion of apprenticeship training.

Quality of Experience : Possession of the required number of years
of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of
qualifications for a position. The applicants overall experience
must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to
conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the
duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
License Requirement: Possession of the appropriate licenses or
certificates as required of the position
Knowledge of: theory and principle of the internal combustion
engine; the principles of electricity as applied to the electrical
systems of motorized equipment; the use of hydraulic oil presses,
lathes, gauges, gear or bearing pullers, sanding machines, spray
guns, testing equipment and other mechanical implements of the
trade; the occupational hazards and precautionary measures
applicable to the trade.
Ability to: locate and adjust mechanical defects in gasoline and
diesel motorized equipment; demonstrate proper work methods and set
the pace; learn the maintenance and repair of non-automotive
equipment such as rotary and centrifugal pumps, air compressors,
lawn mowers and air-powered construction equipment; make repairs
using modern tools, equipment and procedures; do welding and body
and fender repairs; interpret and work from rough sketches or blue
prints as well as from oral and written instructions; make
estimates of time and materials necessary to complete a job; plan
assignments and direct the work of others; operate motorized

Examination : For this recruitment you must qualify on a written
test designed to measure your knowledge and skills necessary for
satisfactory performance of the duties and responsibilities of this
class of work. Your examination grade will be based on 100% of the
written test score. Candidates may be examined for their knowledge
and abilities as mentioned above.
- Please note written exams are held ONLY on Kaua'i. We do NOT
conduct testing in other jurisdictions.
- When attending the exam, please be prompt. There will be no
admittance once the door is closed.

leave the testing site and will not be able to participate in the
written exam (as required by emergency proclamation)
- A candidate may request for an accommodations if he/she is
