Position Summary:The substance abuse counselor for SRSP Day Treatment will develop, initiate and implement the treatment plans for the clients.Position Qualifications:Minimum Education: Must have a Bachelor' s Degree in the field of Human Relations and meet the educational requirements of a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) through the State of Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division.Required Experience: CSAC will be trained in the provision of treatment to individuals with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders. Also CSAC is required to have 1 year of specialized experience working with individuals with mental illness. This specialized experience should include progressively responsible professional work experience that involved helping individuals and their families find satisfactory ways of indentifying their problems, coping with their conditions and functioning effectively within their environment, identification and evaluation of the client's problems and needs, the development of a service or treatment plan, the initiation and implementation of the treatment plan, monitoring of services and evaluation/assessment of the client's progress.Required Certification/Registration: Basic Life Support: (renew upon it's expiration)CPRFirst AidCPITB Clearance (2 step upon hire and annually)Duties and Responsibilities:Screening to determine if the client is appropriate and eligible for admission to a particular programIntake which is the administrative and initial assessment procedures for admission to a programOrientation to describe to the client the general nature and goals of the program, rules and client obligations and rightsAssessment to identify and evaluate a client' s strengths, weaknesses, problems and needs for the development of a treatment planTracking, requesting, and follow through on authorization for services ensuring admission, continued stay, and discharges are received promptlyTreatment planning consisting of explaining assessment results to the client, identifying problems and formulating treatment methodsCounseling clients on utilizing special skillsCoordinate services for clientRecognize the elements of a client crisis and implement and immediate course of actionPresent relevant alcohol and other drug use /abuse information to the client through formal and/or informal processesReferral to assist clients to utilize community resources that are availableCollaborates with other team members in developing, writing, implementing, evaluating and revising recovery/treatment goals, objectives and plansProvides transportation for clients as assigned/neededProvides direct clinical "in vivo" services to assigned clients in the community; visits other sites as requiredProvides all documentation and reports in a timely manner as required, including, but not limited to, client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to established methods and proceduresProvides aftercare treatment as assignedAssists assigned Progran1s to meet credentialing, licensing and contract requirementsParticipates and documents QA activities. Fosters good relationships among care providers; maintains dialogue in interaction with other professionals to identify and resolve existing problems, as well as to explore new avenues or service; participates/contributes in meetings pertinent to area of responsibility; promotes quality client care through a spirit of mutual cooperation with other staffWorks with staff to establish appropriate and ongoing process and outcome indicators, and periodic program evaluation studies; demonstrates improvement where neededAttends trainings/meetings as assignedDemonstrates self-evaluation skills and takes responsibility for and appropriate action to remedy or reduce limitation; independently seeks formal and informal professional development activities to ensure the highest standard of knowledge and skillProvide a minimum of five (5) hours per week and a maximum of twenty-five (25) hours per week, of face to face program activities which utilize cognitive-behavioral and psycho-educational interventions designed to promote recovery, strengthen relapse prevention, and assist consumers in developing skills and/or activities of daily living in order to successfully integrate into or remain in a community setting.Document each consumer' s involvement in the development of treatment goals.Assist Team Leader with the development of Day Treatment program curriculum, daily schedule/activities, and achieving objectives as directed.Arrange for each consumer to have meals if the consumer is present during normal breakfast, lunch, or dinner hours.Provide a maximum of five (5) hours of face to face program activities per week, per consumer which utilize cognitive-behavioral and psycho-educational interventions designed to promote recovery, strengthen relapse prevention, and assist consumers in developing skills and/or activities of daily living in order to successfully integrate into or remain in a community setting.Provide services in a manner consistent with the principles of Illness Management and Self-Directed Recovery, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment, and the DIVISION psychopharmacology Practice Guidelines for Individuals with Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Serious Mental Illness.
