Electronic Technician C - Range Communications

Job Description:

Supporting Range Communications, as well as being cross-trained and cross-utilized in other departments, the candidate shall possess working knowledge and be capable of performing independently or with minimum supervision, to operate and monitor systems and perform operator maintenance on technical systems including calibrate, repair, troubleshoot, modify, test and install communications and networking systems and equipment. Must be familiar with the communications, video and network systems and equipment or industry equivalents assigned to the Barking Sands, Makaha Ridge and Kokee communications facilities.

Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
Sets-up, checks-out, operates and maintains to include monitoring systems and equipment for Range Operations support. Responds to changing operational requirements when directed.
Assists other technicians in periodic inspections and maintenance tasks in accordance with published procedures and/or OEM guidelines. Documents results of all maintenance actions in systems and equipment records.
Assists other technicians in troubleshooting and repair of systems/equipment by reading and interpreting electronic/mechanical schematics and using simple and complex test equipment.
Assists in preparation of monthly system reports, preventive maintenance logs and other logs or reports reflecting day-to-day operations.
Assists in the installation, check-out, calibration and acceptance tests on new and relocated systems and equipment, as directed.
Assist in COMSEC matters including accounting, destruction and courier services for classified and cryptographic materials.
Assist in Message Center with Defense Messaging System (DMS) message traffic distribution and other associated duties when assigned.
Set-up fill devices and keys cryptographic equipment throughout the PMRF project as required
Must be able to complete appropriate Information Assurance (IA) technical training and certification as required.
Maintains configuration control on assigned systems.
Performs other duties as required.
Electronics Shop environment
Travel to and work at remote site locations to include at sea for extended periods

Physical Activities:
Must be able to lift, carry, install and remove electronics equipment and peripherals up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to climb elevated towers and work in sub-floor areas and crawl spaces in performing maintenance inspections and troubleshooting tasks.

High School or equivalent
2 Year Technical School or equivalent training, such as Navy "A" school specializing in Electronics Systems.

High school graduate or equivalent + 2-year technical school

Four years of progressive experience in a related field with a minimum of two year's experience operating and maintaining communications, video and/or networking systems and equipment.
Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) to include but not limited to Ground Radio, Microwave, Satellite Communications, antenna systems and associated linking technologies is highly desired.
Knowledge in the Defense Messaging System (DMS)is desired.
Knowledge of Windows based OS and LINUX platforms.
Must be able to use and interpret results of simple and complex test equipment used in communications, video and networking and environments such as O-scopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, BERT, and other testing and diagnostic equipment.
Must be available for occasional travel for operations and maintenance support at other locations throughout the State of Hawaii to include at sea for extended periods.
Demonstrated knowledge of electronics theory and applications with emphasis in communications and network troubleshooting and repair.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in reading and interpreting schematic diagrams for troubleshooting and repair.
Must have a soldering certificate or equivalent training from a commercial firm, technical school or Navy school.
Must be familiar with OSI 7 Layer model.
